USA law question about holding someone’s IP if they cheated in an online PC game?
This sounds weird to me but it does make sense in a way. I heard that in an online PC game (the ones that ban by an IP address) if someone gets banned by their IP address for cheating or abusing the game rules or server rules in anyway that it’s not illegal. But then if that person is proven innocent it becomes illegal to hold their IP address. Is this true? A friend of mine told me about this and when i asked questions about it he just told me to Google it, i did but i couldn’t find anything about it, probably because i don’t know how to word the search query properly.
Can someone give me an answer please?
Who ever hosts the online game can ban who ever they want for what ever reason from playing the game. The law has nothing to do with it.
And yes, most do track the IP used when you log on to the game, and they can block that IP from logging on. They are not saying you can’t use that IP on other sites, just can’t use it on their site.
