Gambling advertising on TV?
Over the last five years there’s been a noticeable increase in companies being allowed to market various games such as bingo and sports betting through TV advertising, all of which is available on the net. Advertising laws were relaxed by the labour government around the same time the smoking ban was enforced, I believe the government at the time were aware of the need to find an alternative revenue stream to compensate for the loss in revenue caused by the many thousands of people who quit smoking, hence the proposals for super casino’s and the huge increase in availability for online gambling. The Labour government were warned about the long term impact gambling could have on our society by the United States who had at the time enforced an outright ban on the advertising of such products. So then why did Labour allow and encourage fast growth of such a dangerous industry.
Absolutely! It is rather perverse, that, in these times of hardship, with many on benefits, and more to come, people in debt up to their necks, that the government allows such open encouragement to people to fritter their money away in this manner.
