What Is Acceptable Hardware for Online Gamers?
I am looking to become an online gamer, but I am new at this and want to be practical about the hardware I purchase. I simply don’t want to over spend. At the same time, I don’t want to be too cheap and get something that will create a poor playing experience or that will be out dated next month, too.
I want a quad processor, but I’m willing to settled for a duo if it will work just as well. I plan to purchase 4GB SD RAM, but I’m open to advice about that, too. For the graphics, I am considering these:
1) Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100
2) NVIDIA GeForce 9300GE
I plan to play MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft and Second Life.

Lastly, is my internet connection. I am currently on satellite (and I know that is not ideal, but…), but I want to know if a 1,200 kb/s download + 200 upload or maybe even a faster SATELLITE connection would produce a nice experience???
A dual-core CPU will be just fine.
You can only use about 3GB of ram on a 32-bit installation of Windows, but sometimes it’s cheaper to just get 4GB if you’re buying a new computer.
I would recommend the NVidia 9300 over the Intel GMA 3100.
Satellite internet will not give you very good WoW performance. No matter what your upload/download speed your ping will be very bad on a satellite connection. You can test your “ping” here: http://www.dslreports.com/beta/doctorping. DSL or Cable would be the best, but if you cannot get DSL or Cable Internet it would be better to use a cellular network using a “wireless data plan.”
