How are football fixture lists created?
I am curious about the Premier League fixture list which is released, for the new 2008-09 season, on Monday. There are already rumours circulating online about who is playing who on the opening day of the season.
I once read a really interesting article online which explained how the authorities actually create the fixture list. There is an element of randomness about it, but there are other considerations too (e.g. a massive derby game would never be on the opening day of the season). It explained how teams are paired together so that when one plays away the other is at home. Can’t remember what else it said but I’d be really interesting in finding it.
I have tried a few searches, but no luck. Anyone come across it or know where I can find it? Thanks.
a computer program generates the fixtures pal it factors in the level of the teams and so on so that we won’t have the big 4 playing each other at the start and not major clashes throughout i think that is how it is done
but i know a computer generates the fixtures
