How can you teach yourself to programme for games?
Ok, so my dream job is to be working in the computer games industry. There are no types of courses for this anywhere near me.
Are there any programmes that can teach me how to programme? I would really like to get into the industry so any help would be appreciated.
Or a programme so i can make those crappy little online games.
I reccomend going to amazon and buying The C Programming Language (2nd Edition) it’s the first result if you just search “C” it’s an incredibly simple language surprisingly, it’s a relatively thin book, this should get the ball rolling and help you learn the basic syntax and the like that goes with most languages that games are coded with. I mean C++ is a C derivative and C# is pretty similar. Once you get to grips with C look at Object Orientated Programming. I am one of the developers working on a 2D sidecrolling MMO engine at the moment called NetGore written in c# using the XNA technology from microsoft. I’d recomend you looking at it as it will also provide you with simple knowledge of how an engine actually works. Also if you play any games made by Valve using therre source engine i seriously recommend looking at there SDK, you can get all the tools free that you need (IDE’s and the like) from Microsofts website ( http://www.microsoft.com/express/Windows/ ) good luck
